Litchfield is the esteemed home town of the Sondergaard's, a pair of Hollywood geniuses who made it big during the 1930s and 1940s. Haven't heard of them? Well, now you'll be even better at pub trivia!
Outsiders largely regard Litchfield as a basic stop between the Twin Cities and Willmar, which are connected by the meandering US Route 12. However, those familiar with Litchfield know that there's far more to this small city than its railroad stop history. Over the years, the area has developed its own whimsical appeal, easily attracting visitors in its own right. After checking out the town, some find themselves unable to leave for good, as they are too enchanted by the town's charming atmosphere. Those who choose to find Litchfield apts for rent are rewarded with a more relaxed approach to life and the joy of being a part of a loving community.
Moving to Litchfield
One of the perks of living in Litchfield is that you never have to struggle through the transportation nightmares seen in other Minnesota cities. Route 12 lies directly in the center of Litchfield, making it easy for drivers to get where they need to go in the city or continue on to either Minneapolis or Willmar. Other prominent routes include Sibley Avenue and East Fifth Street. Additional transportation needs are fulfilled with the help of the local Hicks Bus Line (Seriously, that is what the bus line is called -- no joke, really!)
To take advantage of the great transportation, you have to move here first. To make things easier for yourself (and for your landlord), have copies of your ID, references, rental history, proof of income and a credit report ready.
Litchfield Neighborhoods
Most of the activity in Litchfield takes place in its eastern region, which is further split into north and south portions by Route 12. However, those interested in rental houses in Litchfield are afforded the opportunity to choose between several wonderful neighborhoods located throughout the city.
North Litchfield: The northern portion of Litchfield is not quite as populous as its southern counterpart. There is a small residential area north of Highway 12, as well as the Optimist Baseball Park and the Meeker County Historical Society. Much of the northeastern section of the city is completely free of development.
South Litchfield: Finding furnished apartments in Litchfield is generally easier when you're looking in the southern half of the city, as this is where most of the residential and commercial activity takes place. Visitors and locals alike enjoy visiting Prairie Park as well as shopping at a variety of stores located just off of US Route 12.
Living In Litchfield
Litchfield boasts a small town feel that is distinctly Minnesotan in nature. The pace of life is slower here than what you would find in the Twin Cities. While some outsiders might find this problematic, those who choose to take up residence in Litchfield appreciate the area's quaint small town feel. As the seat of Meeker County, the city is something of an attraction for those living in West Central Minnesota. Meander through the historic commercial district and you'll soon understand why. After that, stop by Cricket Meadow Tea, Jimmy's Pizza, Taco John's or King's Wok to talk about everything you've seen.
