Wadesboro, North Carolina is located in Anson County, designated the "Bluebird Kingdom of the World."
Wadesboro, North Carolina offers residents and visitors alike old-time charm and hospitality, two tenets of the South. Wadesboro, a city of 6.32 square miles, is located almost equidistant between the New South metropolis of Charlotte, NC and Fayetteville, NC -- great for weekend excursion -- not that you will ever want to leave Wadesboro! Almost half the people who live in Wadesboro also work in and around the town. If you've seen the Academy Award-winning movie The Color Purple, then you've seen one of the most famous landmarks around Wadesboro - a large, white farmhouse called the Huntley House located outside of town on the James Bennett Plantation was used in many scenes.
The heart of this town is its uptown, a well-preserved slice of American life. Prior to diving in to your search for a place to call home, spend some time getting a feel for the area. Andrew Jackson Highway 74 divides the town into north and south so you'll want to investigate both areas. Churches number almost 50 in this little town. The housing market here is definitely not your run-of-the-mill metro market with diverse opportunities, but if apartment living is home in your heart, there are options. Two- and three-bedroom houses for rent also abound.
Moving Home
Median home prices are almost half of what they are in the state of North Carolina and as such, Wadesboro offers an above-average number of homes for rent. About 43 percent of the residents rent their homes. There are over 1100 detached houses and a small number of duplexes. If you want a rental house, condo, or apartment home, you'll likely find one quickly, so you can settle in soon. Hooray!
Do Your Homework
Most homes are situated on larger-than-average lots. The area features rolling hills and lots of trees so whatever houses you explore are likely to have enjoyable landscapes - we just hope lawn maintenance is covered in the rent!
Get Ready for School
Wadesboro offers two elementary schools, a public middle and public high school, as well as an early vocational high school too.
Signing on the Dotted Line
Are you ready to forward your mail to the perfect new pad you found in Wadesboro? You'll want to be prepared once you find the new place to call home. Cash reserves equal to first month's rent and any deposit, plus proof of the ability to pay monthly are a usual requirement. Landlords also like to know to whom they're renting so have a brief rental history and references ready. Background and credit checks are fairly standard procedure before renting any type of dwelling. As the Boy Scouts say, best to be prepared.
There are two basic areas in Wadesboro: in-town and not in-town. Some city apartment and condo rentals are right in the middle of historic uptown. The lucky few who reside in town may pay a premium to do it, but some cost-of-living expenses are cut due to the walkability of this area. Otherwise, areas outside of city limits may offer a lower cost of living and country settings. Golfers head south of town to the public golf course and country club.
Two apartment complexes are located north of uptown: Pinebluff is also north of uptown. South of uptown and the 52/74 Highway are Pine Terrace Apartments and Laurel Commons. Pine Terrace and Pinebluff complexes are operated by the same company, and most of these complexes do not offer paid utilities. Options here are a bit limited, but the lure of the ease of an apartment location makes them worth checking out.
Because of its smaller size, most Wadesboro residents can walk to some amenities, and the closer you live to uptown, the more of a reality it is. You'll need a car to venture outside of this idyllic place but after sitting in traffic somewhere else, you'll be glad to get back home to Wadesboro. You'll be drawn in by the charm of both the people and the town. The locals are proud and people who live here rarely leave except for employment opportunities. Antiquing and perusing the shops in uptown can take some of your time and some of your money, but it's a leisurely way to enjoy the day. Stop in the local winery and enjoy the newly renovated historic Belk Building. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy fishing and picnicking in the surrounding parks within the county. Because of the Wadesboro's smaller footprint, a day is all you'll need to sightsee, but beware: Wadesboro might just capture your heart.
