Ocean Acres is actually a fairly recent town, having only been established after 1960.
At one point, Ocean Acres was merely a plot of unused land; however, developers in need of more space to build decided to start a Homeowners Association in what is now Ocean Acres. Split between Stafford Township and Barnegat Township, the original Ocean Acres development offered three home designs: two ranch styles and a bi-level house.
Despite selling 2000 lots in the first year, the Ocean Acres neighborhood was slow to develop. Because many of the streets were unpaved and many of the homes were vacation houses, Ocean Acres lacked the infrastructure needed to draw in long term residents. In an effort to increase population growth, Ocean Acres marketed itself as an outdoor oasis of fun and relaxation. During the 1970s and 1980s, Ocean Acres built several recreation facilities that included a lakefront park, an 18-hole golf course and a bathing beach with a pool. Although several of these facilities have since closed, Ocean Acres still offers an abundance of activities aimed at getting local residents out and about. Starting in 2000, new housing developments were built in the Barnegat Township side of Ocean Acres and the final projects necessary for increased population growth were completed. Now, Ocean Acres is a thriving small city with a moderate population and many of the modern amenities found in more industrialized cities like a major shopping mall and convenience stores.
Walters Homes: New development of luxury single-family homes located in the Barnegat, NJ side of Ocean Acres. The development includes a number of buildable lots. Every home will be either a Colonial or Ranch and have at least three bedrooms, two baths and two car garages. Ocean Acres Country Club: If golf is your first love, then nothing beats a home on an 18-hole course. If searching for places to live in Ocean Acres, NJ be sure to consider a home that overlooks the magnificently maintained golf course. These newer homes feature at least two bedrooms and two bathrooms. However, be aware that the homes on the golf course are slightly smaller than the average house in Ocean Acres, NJ.
Because it is still an establishing neighborhood, living in Ocean Acres means that you can help make decisions that will impact future generations. Not only does Ocean Acres have a large number of single family homes, but also it has a growing number of furnished apartments available for rent. Given that Ocean Acres is situated on only 5 square miles of prime beachfront land, nearly everything in town is accessible by walking.
