Covering an area of just 5 square miles, Depew may not be the biggest town, but it's a friendly place to live. If you've always dreamed of asking to borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbors without being yelled at, then this village might be just the place for you. While Depew doesn't have much in the way of amenities, it's just 13 miles away from central Buffalo, where you'll be able to find plenty going on.
The percent of homes that are rented out in Depew is a little below the national average, as well as the average for New York state. Therefore, it might take you a little longer to find that perfect home for rent in Depew than it would elsewhere. However, as long as you start looking for rental apartments in or houses roughly six to eight weeks before the date you want to move in, you should be able to find that perfect property. Your landlord or realtor will usually want to see proof of income, reference, credit scores, rental history and some ID before they let you move in, so you can speed things up by having these documents ready to go. What, were you expecting the landlord to just hand you the keys?
While Depew's neighborhoods aren't vastly different from one another, you will notice some subtle variants. For instance, some areas will have lots of rental houses, whereas other parts may have more apartments or duplexes for rent.
Columbia: Homes in this neighborhood are well-established, but not especially old, mostly built between the '40s and the '70s. The tend to be on the larger side, with more outdoor space.
Town Center: If you love historic buildings, you'll enjoy the town center, as most of its homes were built prior to 1940, with some being much older. Properties are generally small or medium-sized and there's a mixture of houses and apartments. Of course, one of the main benefits of this area is its proximity to shops and eateries.
Como Park: Properties in this neighborhood are mostly on the newer size, built toward the end of the 20th century. While there are plenty of houses in the area, there are also a number of apartment complexes.
Depew may not be the cultural hub of the state (it is called NEW YORK state, after all), but you're not exactly going to have to spend your days watching paint dry, either. When it comes to outdoor space, Fireman's Park is where it's at. Between September and March, it's home to an outdoor ice rink, but it has many more facilities available year round, including basketball courts, volleyball courts and a covered picnic area. Many residents find it easiest to drive to get from A to B, but there is an Amtrak station in the village, meaning you can get to Buffalo in no time, as well as being able to go direct to Toronto in one direction and New York City in the other.
