Brooklyn, Ohio, is a small suburban city in the shadow of a much larger one--Cleveland. It is not to be confused with Old Brooklyn, which is actually a neighborhood in Cleveland, or Brooklyn Heights, a village also in the area.
Brooklyn is located just six miles to the southwest of Cleveland. In fact, it is less than one mile from Brooklyn to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, and less than five miles to Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Brooklyn had a population of just over 11,000 as of the 2010 U.S. Census. The city of Brooklyn is fairly comfy and is very walkable.
Moving to Brooklyn
If you are interested in moving to Brooklyn, there are some important decisions to make about what you want in a neighborhood where you live, and then what you need from your Brooklyn rental housing. In this suburb, you will find a range of home rentals, from a studio apartment for rent to 2 bedroom apartments for rent, so there is a lot to choose from and typically there is good availability for rental property in the area. Over 40 percent of the housing units in Brooklyn are occupied by renters, and those units include a good mix of single-family homes, duplex houses, and apartment complexes of varying sizes. With apartment complexes, there are lots of amenities like fitness centers and swimming pools that might be important to you.
The city is split into three distinct neighborhoods--the northern and western parts are referred to as the American Road area; it includes the areas around Tiedeman Road and Memphis Avenue. The City Center area of town is comprised of nearly 86 percent of homes and apartments that were built during the time between 1945 and 1964, and this area is residential for the most part. The final area is called Biddulph / Ridge Park for the two area shopping centers that are in town. The American Road area and City Center are extremely affordable. The Biddulph / Ridge area is still a bargain when compared to other suburban areas, both around Cleveland and near other large cities in the country.
