The city of Sallisaw was at one time home to the great Sequoyah, who was responsible for the creation of the written alphabet of the Cherokee Nation. The name "Sallisaw," however, is taken from the French word "salaison," which refers to salt meat or salted provisions.
Sallisaw has an area of 12.9 square miles and a population of just short of 9,000 inhabitants. The city is the county seat of Sequoyah County in Oklahoma. In the early years, the economy was based on cotton farming, and it still is to some extent, though the main occupations these days differ. Sallisaw Municipal Airport, about half a mile south of the intersection of U.S. Route 59 and Interstate 40, helps to provide access to the great beyond in the locality.
Moving to Sallisaw
Renting in Sallisaw is a relatively standard affair. Sallisaw landlords on the whole generally look for the same criteria that landlords in other parts of the country would. The basic list of rental requirements include the deposit, which tends to be equivalent to a month's rent, in addition to a month's rental payment up front. You'll also be asked for proof of your identity -- a passport or driving license is in order here -- and it's good to come armed with some references gained from previous landlords. Finally, just before you place your thumb print on the contract to sign the deal (we're kidding, but you will have to provide a signature), you'll also need to prove that you have the income to afford the property. Once that's all been dealt with, you're good to go!

Living in Sallisaw
Sallisaw has three highways that run directly through it: the U.S. 59 (also known as Kerr Boulevard), the U.S. 64 (Cherokee Avenue, which represents the city's main street) and the Interstate 40.
Residents of Sallisaw can keep themselves busy by sitting indoors watching television, or they can get out and around to experience what Sallisaw is all about. Sequoyah's Cabin Historic Site is an ideal way to learn about the earlier history of the city. The site, which is located close to the center of town, is basically a simple cabin built in 1829. Is that it? No, not by a long shot. After all, the guy who built the simple log cabin was also responsible for developing the Cherokee alphabet. This was one very smart dude, and you'll get a sense of his level of intelligence by paying a visit to the historic site.
The gamblers in town will find it necessary to visit Cherokee Casino on West Ruth Street. If you're new to casino games, do keep in mind that this place is not necessarily for beginners. After all, no one is going to sit down with you for a few hours and inform you as to how you can win at blackjack by counting cards with a variety of mathematical formulae. Like it is with all casinos, the best way to win is to plan to lose, unless you're a particularly talented card counter (don't worry, we won't tell).
For a classy refreshment, head over to Roma's Italian Restaurant. Portions are sizable and the food is excellent. So, with that said, it's time to go fill your belly with some fine grub!
