Many of the rental houses available were once homes for the area's steel workers. Sadly, many of the buildings have been abandoned entirely by their previous owners (but hey, one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?). However, a restructuring of property taxes is attempting to renovate the area and bring new buyers to the area. This should encourage property investors to renovate many of the existing dilapidated structures and open them up for renters to enjoy.

Living in Clairton

Just a half hour's drive from Pittsburgh, Clairton was the setting for the movie "The Deer Hunter," though no scenes from the actual movie were filmed there. A recreational trail, Montour Trail, connects Clairton to Coraopolis, Pennsylvania -- a nice hike for outdoors lovers.

Though having no distinct neighborhoods of its own, Clairton is bordered by the townships of Elizabeth, West Elizabeth, Mifflin, Glassport and Jefferson Hills. Property values here are quite a bit lower than in the state of Pennsylvania as a whole. This makes it easy to find all bills paid rental properties.
