This sweet little town was originally named Clifton-by-the-Sea, but the U.S. Postal Service said the town name was too long and it needed to be shortened. Of course, the residents wanted to call it Clifton, but that town already existed up near the Dallas-Waco area. It was decided that the town would be called Bay Cliff, and when the paperwork was filled out, a typo (by the U.S. Postal Service) shortened that to Bacliff. Hence, the town of Bacliff (pronounced bay-cliff) was born!

This beautifully scenic, albeit small, coastal town is located 16 miles northwest of Galveston on the shores of Galveston Bay. With a population of 8,619 residents and growing, this adorable Texas town encompasses only 2.7 square miles. That seems tight, but because of the coastal location, the area feels expansive with its unrestricted views in every direction.
Moving to Bacliff
Bacliff began as a seaside resort town back in 1910, named Clifton-By-The-Sea when it was first conceived as a tourist destination. Since then, the beautiful little town was hit hard by hurricanes, internal disputes over incorporation and a name change that was bungled. No matter, this resilient little town prospered and weathered each storm that passed with grace, dignity and a determination that had helped to shape it into the prosperous, bustling little ocean side town it is today.

Neighborhoods of Bacliff
Below are descriptions of Bacliff's four major neighborhoods.
Bacliff Heights: If you are looking for housing for rent in Bacliff, then this area might just be the one for you. Located between Bayshore Dr. on Galveston Bay and stretching inland to Hwy 145, this suburban neighborhood features one-, two- and three-bedroom houses for rent that are spacious and extremely well landscaped. You are also a three-minute walk to the shores of Galveston Bay.
Bayview / Bacliff: This gorgeous neighborhood is perfect for beach lovers and birding enthusiasts. Actually, anyone who loves having the bay a stone's throw away and enjoys stunning sunrises will be right at home. Home rentals in this area, in the north end of town, are typically medium to large in size (picture two to five bedrooms). It is difficult to pin down the neighborhood with any one architectural style, which is part of what adds to the charm and diversity of the area.
Chase Park: Chase Park is a beautifully developed community that has 441 homes within its borders. If you find your perfect spot within this community, you will have HOA fees that likely apply, unless otherwise stipulated by your new landlord. This helps to pay for the upkeep and maintenance of the neighborhood playground, basketball court, swimming pool and the sidewalk perimeter that surrounds the entire community.
Clifton by the Sea: Finding an apartment for rent in this area is like going on a treasure hunt. From tiny beach cottages to extravagantly large beach houses and everything in between, this neighborhood is home to a friendly and eclectic set of people and properties. Located on the south end of town closest to the Clifton Channel, this area is very pedestrian friendly. It's an easy walk to the shores of Galveston Bay or over to Noah's Ark Bar & Grill on Boulevard Street to enjoy lunch on the deck while enjoying a spectacular view!
