On the edge of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains in a region steeped in history, live nearly 8,000 people in the Census Designated Place known as Collinsville. Part of the greater Martinsville area with a total population of about 50,000, it's big enough to have a lot of the amenities of a larger city, yet it still maintains somewhat of a small-town feel. If you like watching cars race around in circles, Martinsville hosts NASCAR events.
Moving to Collinsville
Traditionally, the economy in this part of the state hasn't experienced the same kind of growth that the northern counties have seen. The per capita income is about half what is seen in Alexandria and Annandale -- but of course, the rents are much lower here as well! There is more rental housing to choose from here, and it's possible to land a good deal with a little planning and a decent credit report. Renting an apartment in Collinsville may be relatively easier, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't make a plan to be sure you get the place that best suits your needs.
