The town of Kimberly, just a few miles east of Appleton, is small enough to maintain a strong sense of community among its 6,500 residents, but still close enough to larger cities that you can enjoy the perks of urban living. The area has produced a number of high achievers, including the amazing Harry Houdini, actor Willem Dafoe, and award-winning combat photographer Russell Lee Klika. There is just one caveat to living in Kimberly: you must be a through-and-through Green Bay Packers fan. If not, be prepared to talk football in lieu of a welcome speech.
Coming Home
There are a number of apartment complexes in Kimberly, with everything from studio apartments for rent to three-bedroom houses for rent. You can also find rental homes in Kimberly up to four bedrooms if you prefer, based on your living situation.
Because of the affordable prices and the excellent location, you may have trouble finding a rental housing right away. Some newcomers plan their relocation months in advance to allow plenty of time to secure the right property, while others live in Appleton for a bit, and then move into the cozier suburb of Kimberly once they have developed a network of friends who will connect them to rental apartments.
Neighborhoods
Kimberly is so much more than its paper products; this town provides outdoor activities, a rich community atmosphere, and endless entertainment for you and your family.
Village Center: Rents here tend to be a little lower than average and stands out for its college student-friendly environment.
S. Washington Street / County Road: This area is much larger than the Village Center and tends to have higher costs for rentals. It's also home to retirement living options.
Living in Kimberly
Granted, Wisconsin does have cold winters, significantly below freezing in December, January, and February. However, spring and fall weather is lovely, and summers are perfect, reminding locals how much fun it can be to ride the change of seasons. Kimberly residents are especially lucky: The village has an active, efficient Board of Trustees, and municipal departments run like clockwork. That means rapid snow removal during heavy winters, well-maintained parks, and speedy resolutions to your water and sewer problems.
Wondering how you will stay entertained in Kimberly? Not to worry. The village sponsors baseball, football, and soccer for the sports-minded, and musicians can join the Kimberly Community Band. If your appreciation of music tends more towards watching than playing, you will love the lineup at the Kimberly Amphitheater.
The annual Paperfest provides three days of music and special events for families, and the Community First Fox Cities Marathon schedules three days of running events for every skill level. Don't forget the annual Big Green Music Festival, serving up all the fun of an outdoor concert with an environmentally-friendly focus.
Eleven parks are located within the 2.42 square miles of Kimberly, proving again that residents here really love their green space. The most magnificent of these is 80-acre Sunset Park, complete with ball fields, swimming, fishing, and hiking. Best of all, you can still spend time at Sunset Park during the cold Wisconsin winters, as the hiking trails double as cross-country skiing routes.
