The unit does come with a washer/dryer. There is also a back patio leading out to the back yard. The large backyard is a blank slate with which to do as you please, if you like back yards. The apartment is located about 20-25 minutes (on foot) from the US Capitol (or about a 5 minute bike ride.) It's also just a few blocks from both the metro and metro bus access. A Safeway is also just a few blocks away, there is also a Whole Foods in walking distance, making grocery shopping a breeze. (There is a little corner shop just around the corner for small stuff.) For baseball lovers, you'd only be about 2 blocks from the world champion Nationals Stadium. Audi Field is just around the corner as well. On top of all that, you're still right in the heart of DC, very close to The Wharf, the Smithsonian, and easy access to the highways without having to deal with all the downtown grid traffic.
