Grand Ledge, Michigan, is one of the most popular places in the country for rock climbers, who flock here to scale the sandstone routes located high above the Grand River.
Grand Ledge has a population of 7,786 (2010 census), and it's safe to say that a large percentage of these locals may well be rock climbers. This town is a mecca for folks who love to scale the area's magnificent sandstone and quartzite rock ledges, many of which rise to more than 60 feet. Back in the 1870s, Grand Ledge was reinvented as a resort town, where entrepreneurs peddled the healthful waters from the local mineral springs. In 1891, these savvy developers even built an amusement park here, complete with animals, a merry-go-round and Michigan's first roller coaster. All of this may be gone now, but what remains is a wonderfully scenic town with a friendly, unhurried atmosphere; beautiful nature centers; picturesque historic buildings and loads of charm and personality -- even without the roller coaster. Balconies are a coveted amenity for many renters looking for high-rise views and opportunities for fresh air. However, you should keep in mind that balconies often come with restrictions.
Before signing a lease, ask about how many people can be on the balcony at once. Also, ask about whether you’re allowed to store a bike or other items.
You’ll also want to know about any maintenance schedules. Using your balcony as storage could result in fines and intervention from your property management.
Keep in mind that not all balconies are created equally. You may discover the views of the parking area are less than optimal or reduce your overall privacy.
Balconies can also get messy with debris, foliage, dirt, and pollen depending on your location. Renters are typically responsible for any clean-up and basic balcony upkeep.
Regardless of the issues to keep in mind, balconies are usually a big win for Grand Ledge renters. Ask about apartments on higher floors for the best views.
